After nearly twenty years of working together, the five musicians of OXYD continue to pursue a deeply unclassifiable sound, free from stylistic categories and conventions. Unclassifiable because it avoids harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic clichés—or, on the contrary, because the group has seized these clichés, reappropriated them, and made them its own. Their music grows from a shared identity, shaped by individual personalities and a form of group telepathy, unconcerned with trends or labels.

The end of humanity, long confined to myth and fantasy, now feels increasingly tangible, accelerated by climate disruption and social and political tensions. It is within this dark landscape that LAPSE, the new album by OXYD, takes shape.

Since 2006, OXYD has been developing a personal and original repertoire that blends the spirit of jazz and improvised music with elements of rock and contemporary music. Their influences are wide-ranging, including artists such as Jim Black (AlasNoAxis), Steve Coleman, John Hollenbeck, as well as Marc Ducret and Stéphane Payen (Thôt), and extending to bands that explore the boundaries between rock and improvisation, such as Kneebody, Radiohead, and Sonic Youth.

Their compositions—sometimes melodic, sometimes dissonant—interweave with extended passages of improvisation rooted in jazz and free jazz, as well as sonic experiments inspired by contemporary music. This results in a complexity disguised as simplicity, where each musician alternately takes on the roles of composer, improviser, performer, and conductor.

Alexandre Herer is a pianist and keyboardist. After studying classical and jazz piano at the conservatory, he devoted himself to piano performance, composition, and the development of his own projects. For more than ten years, he has been refining a distinctive sound and musical identity, often through the Fender Rhodes—his instrument of choice and a partner in many sonic experiments.

Inspired by jazz, improvised music, and contemporary music, his work is contemplative in nature, balancing freedom and complexity.

Thibault Perriard

在索邦大学攻读音乐学及巴黎国立高等音乐学院（CNSMDP）学习期间，Thibault Perriard便与多位活跃于爵士前沿领域的音乐人合作，尤其活跃于Slugged与OXYD两个团体之中。OXYD曾于2010年入围Django d’Or奖项，并荣获Jazz à Vienne新人比赛与Sunside奖项，同时他本人还以独奏演奏获得评审团特别提名。

凭借风格多元的作品目录以及在法国及海外的大量巡演经历，他曾与众多知名音乐家合作演出。他还与舞蹈艺术家（与舞者 R. Ardeno 合作的 Duo Physis）、影像创作者（Focus Collectif），以及戏剧导演和演员展开跨界合作。在这些项目中，他同时以演员与音乐家的身份参与创作与演出。

During his studies in musicology at the Sorbonne and at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), Thibault Perriard surrounded himself with musicians at the forefront of the jazz scene, notably within the groups Slugged and OXYD. The latter was nominated for the Django d’Or in 2010 and won both the Jazz à Vienne Talent Competition and the Sunside Trophies, where he also received a special jury mention as a soloist.

With an eclectic discography and numerous tours in France and abroad, he has performed alongside many renowned musicians. He also collaborates with dancers (Duo Physis with dancer R. Ardeno), video artists (Focus Collectif), and theater directors and actors, where he appears both as an actor and a musician.

Finally, as guitarist, drummer, and lead singer, he co-founded the Brit-pop band Tomboy.

Oliver Degabriele

Oliver Degabriele出生于马耳他。2005 年，Oliver前往巴黎深造，先后就读于巴黎第九区音乐学院以及巴黎国立大区音乐学院（CNR）。

多年来，他先后参与了超过25个活跃于巴黎与马耳他的音乐项目与乐团。他长期活跃于国际巡演与音乐节舞台，曾登上蒙特勒爵士音乐节（瑞士）、Jazz à Vienne（法国）、光州世界音乐节（韩国）、SXSW（美国）、广州爵士音乐节（中国）、马耳他爵士音乐节等重要音乐节，并在Sunset/Sunside、Duc des Lombards、La Cigale、La Maroquinerie等知名俱乐部演出。

此外，Oliver还参与录制并发行了 20 余张专辑，涵盖法国与马耳他地区的重要音乐项目，包括Akalé Wubé的三张专辑、Festen的两张专辑、OXYD 的《Plasticity》、Etnika 的《Żifna》、Charles Camilleri 的《Mal-Kant tal-Baħar》等作品。目前，他常年往返居住于马耳他与巴黎之间。

Born in Malta, Oliver Degabriele followed a classical piano training before moving on to the double bass at the age of 18.

Oliver moved to Paris in 2005 to further his studies at the 9th District Conservatory and later at the Conservatoire National du Region (CNR) in Paris.

Over the years he has been a member of over 25 musical projects and formations based in Paris and Malta. He has toured extensively and performed at various festivals and clubs.

Oliver has also participated in over 20 recordings released in France and Malta. He currently lives in between Malta and Paris.

Julien Pontvianne

Saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Julien Pontvianne blends several musical traditions - from Renaissance Masses or Indonesian Gamelan to the musics of Sonic Youth, Paul Motian or Morton Feldman - to create his vision of slowness.

On top of his explorations as a leader, Julien is a founding member of the label and collective Onze Heures Onze, one of Paris' new scene's most vibrant actors. He plays in bands ranging from 20's swing oldies to experimental rock to the most contemporary musics.

Graduated with honors from the Paris conservatory CNSMDP in 2009, Julien won a lot of prices and played in New-York, New-Orleans, Los Angeles, Montreal, China, Japon, India, en Colombia and in all Europe.

Olivier Laisney

Born in 1982 in Saint-Lô, Laisney has asserted himself as one of the most subtle trumpet players on the scene, articulating a jazz culture marked by the influence of Woody Shaw and the great hard bop instrumentalists, as proven by his playing in the Gil Evans Paris Workshop led by Laurent Cugny, along with resolutely contemporary conceptions that he explores at the head of his own projects (Yantras, Slugged), as well as in the various groups in the nebula of Stéphane Payen’s Workshop, Magic Malik’s Fanfare XP, Alban Darche’s Orphicube, etc.

The intelligence of his phrasing and the precision of his articulation, combined with the way he re-assembles the elements of the grammar of jazz, make him a particularly inspired soloist.
